3D Model Troubleshooting
Common Failure Causes
If your 3D model generation fails, the most likely causes are:
- Poor photo quality — Blurry, dark, or low-resolution photos do not provide enough detail for the AI to work with. Use a photo that is sharp, well-lit, and at least 1 megapixel.
- Heavy filters or editing — Instagram filters, vignettes, text overlays, or extreme color grading confuse the AI model. Use the original, unfiltered photo.
- Complex backgrounds — If the dish is on a busy, cluttered surface with many other objects, the AI may struggle to isolate the subject. A simple, clean background works best.
- Unusual angles — Extreme side angles or close-up macro shots can make it difficult for the AI to infer the full 3D shape. Top-down or 45-degree angles produce the most reliable results.
- Flat items — Very flat dishes (like a thin crepe or a single-layer pizza) may produce models that look too thin. The AI does its best, but some dishes naturally have more 3D depth than others.
Quality Issues with Generated Models
If your model generates successfully but does not look quite right, here are some things to check:
- Texture artifacts — Small visual glitches on the model surface are sometimes caused by reflective or transparent elements in the photo (glass, foil, glossy sauce). These are generally minor and hard to notice on a phone screen.
- Proportions look off — This usually happens when the photo has strong perspective distortion (very close-up with a wide-angle lens). Try a photo taken from slightly further away.
- Missing details — Small garnishes or fine details may not be captured in the 3D model. The AI focuses on the main shape and primary textures.
If you are not satisfied with a model, you can upload a different photo of the same dish and regenerate. Each dish can have multiple attempts, and the latest successful model is the one displayed to customers.
Retry Strategy
When retrying a failed or unsatisfactory model:
- Take a new photo with better lighting (natural light near a window is ideal)
- Use a clean, neutral-colored plate and a simple background
- Photograph from directly above or at a 45-degree angle
- Make sure the dish fills most of the frame
- Upload the new photo and click "Generate 3D" again
Most dishes generate successfully on the first or second attempt. If a dish fails three or more times, it may be a type that is inherently difficult for 3D conversion (very flat, translucent, or mostly liquid).
When to Contact Support
Contact our support team if:
- Every model you try to generate fails, regardless of the photo
- Models are stuck in "Generating" or "Processing" status for more than 15 minutes
- A model shows as "Ready" on your dashboard but does not appear on the public menu
- You see an error message you do not understand
When contacting support, include the name of the menu item, the approximate time you attempted generation, and any error message you see. This helps us diagnose the issue quickly.
