Menu URL and Slug
Every restaurant on MenuGaze gets a unique public URL where customers can browse the menu. Understanding how URLs and slugs work helps you share your menu effectively and maintain a clean, recognizable link.
URL Structure
Your public menu URL follows this pattern:
menugaze.com/menu/[slug]
The [slug] is a URL-safe identifier derived from your restaurant
name. For example, if your restaurant is named "Golden Dragon Kitchen," your
slug would be golden-dragon-kitchen and your full menu URL would be:
menugaze.com/menu/golden-dragon-kitchen
How Slugs Are Generated
When you create your restaurant profile, MenuGaze automatically generates a slug from the restaurant name. The process:
- Converts the name to lowercase
- Replaces spaces with hyphens
- Removes special characters that are not URL-safe
- Appends a short numeric suffix if the slug is already taken by another restaurant
Sharing Your URL
You can share your menu URL anywhere: social media, your website, printed materials, or text messages. The URL is stable and will not change unless you explicitly update it. Some effective ways to use your menu URL:
- Add it to your Google My Business listing under the menu link field
- Include it in your Instagram or Facebook bio
- Print it on business cards, flyers, or takeout packaging
- Add it to your existing website with a "View Menu" button
Note: Custom domain support (e.g., menu.yourrestaurant.com)
is on our roadmap but not yet available. Currently all menus are hosted at
menugaze.com/menu/[slug].
