Photo Upload Issues
File Size and Format
The most common cause of upload failures is the file being too large or in an unsupported format. MenuGaze accepts:
- Formats: JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), PNG (.png), WebP (.webp)
- Maximum size: 10 MB per file
If your photo is too large, you can reduce it using your phone's built-in photo editor or a free online tool. Most food photos work well at 2-4 MB. Larger files do not noticeably improve the quality of the digital menu.
If you are using a format not listed above (such as HEIC from iPhones, TIFF, or RAW), convert it to JPEG first. Most phones have a setting to save photos as JPEG instead of HEIC.
Server and Connection Errors
If the file meets the size and format requirements but the upload still fails, the issue may be with your connection or a temporary server problem:
- Unstable connection — Uploading a large file over a slow or intermittent connection can cause timeouts. Try connecting to a stronger Wi-Fi network or use a wired connection if possible.
- Server maintenance — Occasionally our servers undergo maintenance. Wait a few minutes and try again.
- Session expired — If you have been logged in for a long time, your session may have expired. Refresh the page and log in again before retrying the upload.
Retry Steps
If your upload fails, try these steps in order:
- Refresh the page
- Make sure you are still logged in (check that your dashboard loads normally)
- Verify the file is under 10 MB and in JPEG, PNG, or WebP format
- Try uploading a different photo to rule out a problem with that specific file
- Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari)
- Wait five minutes and try again in case of a temporary server issue
If the problem persists after all these steps, take note of any error message displayed on screen and contact our support team. Including the file size, format, and browser you are using helps us diagnose the issue faster.
